AHDA Membership

A late fee of an additional $15 will be applied to each dancer after the deadline.

Before AHDA Membership, each dancer must sign up for lessons with a dance teacher.

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

All parents/guardians of AHDA members must volunteer at the various events and competitions organized and hosted by our association. Full members are eligible to attend and vote at the annual general meeting held each spring. As a member of AHDA you are eligible to sit as a member of the Executive if you are nominated and elected at the annual general meeting.

All memberships run annually from November 1 to October 31. Membership prices are subject to change.

DIRECTOR CRITERIA

Any member of AHDA shall be eligible to be elected a director of the Society, and a director of the society shall be a member.

The number of directors shall be 5-7. The officer positions shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

The remaining 1-3 positions shall be external directors with preferably representation coming from at least one member of each AHDA dance school.

FULL MEMBER:  $45/Dancer or $60/Family

  • Members who reside in the geographic area of Antigonish Town or County and attend regular dance lessons with an AHDA registered dance teacher/dance school.
  • Opportunities are extended to dance in a non-competitive environment at the annual AHDA Christmas Concert, Antigonish Highland Games Street Fair Concert, the Antigonish Farmers Market and other community events throughout the year.
  • Opportunities are extended to take part in AHDA sponsored workshops, preferred registration and pricing, recitals and socials.
  • Eligible to compete for the “Bill Cousins Memorial Award,” presented at the annual AHDA Fall Competition to a pre-premier member of AHDA.
  • Dance competition results/photos will be posted on AHDA social media outlets.
  • Dancer posters will be displayed at the AHDA fall competition and Christmas concert.
  • Eligible to apply for AHDA travel funding if selected to represent Nova Scotia at the annual ScotDance Canada Championship Series.
  • Eligible to apply for an AHDA scholarship in their last year of secondary education.
  • Dancers must sell five books ($25) of fundraising tickets to be handed in at the annual AHDA Christmas concert

AFFILIATE 1 MEMBER:  $45/Dancer or $60/Family

  • Members who reside outside the geographic area of Antigonish Town or County and attend regular dance lessons with an AHDA registered dance teacher/dance school (including video lessons).
  • Post-secondary students or dancers older than 18 years of age who are previous members of AHDA, who now reside outside of Antigonish Town or County, but continue to attend dance classes with an AHDA teacher shall qualify as an Affiliate 1 Member.
  • Post-secondary students residing in Antigonish Town or County during the school year, who are taking classes from an AHDA teacher are eligible for an Affiliate 1 membership.
  • Affiliate 1 Members shall have the same benefits as full members with the exception of being ineligible for provincial representative AHDA travel funding and ineligible to apply for the AHDA scholarship.

AFFILLIATE 2 MEMBER:  $20/Dancer

  • Members who reside in the geographic area of Antigonish Town or County and attend regular dance lessons with a dance teacher outside of Antigonish Town or County (including video lessons).
  • Dance competition results and photos will be posted on AHDA social media outlets.
  • Dancer posters will be displayed at the AHDA fall competition and Christmas concert.
  • Affiliate 2 members are ineligible for provincial representative AHDA travel funding and are ineligible to apply for the AHDA scholarship.

DANCE TEACHER MEMBER:  No fee

  • Members must reside in the geographic area of Antigonish Town or County and provide regular dance lessons with a dance school in Antigonish Town or County.
  • Dance teachers must be fully certified by either the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance (SDTA), the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD), or UKA Dance, and be a registered member of ScotDance Canada.
  • Dance teachers must be 18 years of age to vote at the AHDA annual general meeting.
  • Final decision on membership eligibility for dance teachers is at the sole discretion of the AHDA Executive.
