Volunteer at the Competitions
The following volunteer jobs are available at the Antigonish Highland Games in July and the Annual November competition.
Marshalling
This person is responsible for lining up the dances in numerical order and directing them on stage to dance.
Runner
Once each group has finished a dance, the judge usually folds his/her “judge’s sheet” in half and sets it on the side of her table. You simply have to pick it up and bring it over to the scrutineering area.
Scrutineering
This job requires two people and requires one person to have previous experience or training. One person reads out the scores on the judge’s sheet and another person inputs the scores into the computer. (Please note: you cannot scrutineer at a time when your child is dancing.)
Announcing – MC
This is the person who keeps everything running smoothly by calling the groups to the line up area, makes general announcements and announces the award recipients.
Registration
This person will assist the registrar with signing in dancers, checking dance cards, handing out competitor numbers and programs.
Music
This person plays preselected music for each dance. Music and and player will be available at the competition.
